inStaying at the Caravan Club’s Centenary site at Bransgore in the New Forest. The site landscaping is maturing beautifully since my last visit and this really is a flagship Club site. And with the weather I am experiencing it is just an enormous pleasure to be here!

inThis weekend saw me taking a day off from my motorhome travels and opening my garden to the public along with seventeen other gardens in Felsted. The sun shone and and people came from far and wide.
The star turn in my garden seems to be the tortured robinia which was much commented on and also people seemed to like the way I have over the last five years turned it into a bee friendly environment with lots of plants that bees love – and they are much in evidence in the garden so I must be doing something right!
It was a great day – the village holds the event every three years and people – particularly gardeners – love wandering around looking at other people’s gardens.

inI am celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Willingcott Caravan Club site and although it rained sadly on the actual birthday, on Saturday the weather was sublime and the site was looking its best.
It is a 161 pitch site with 69 hard standings and feels really spacious and set in North Devon’s famous rolling countryside. It is just off the A361 from Barnstaple and I wandered up to the Fortescue pub for a meal one evening so you could say the site has all the essential ingredients for us motorhome owners!!
And it is all birthdays at the moment with the Caravan Club itself being 104 today.
Somehow think I am in for a good summer.

inNormally I come home through France but have decided this time to return via Austria and Germany. Just off the A3 within about one mile of the motorway near Wurzberg which is the last biggish place before you hit Frankfurt at junction 66 is Camping Wertheim Bettingen. There is a nice grass field with EHU for the tourers like me but you can use all the facilities of the site which includes an outdoor restaurant and bar; it had been a long drive and all I felt like doing was crashing out at the bar!
The site is along side the river Main and certainly hit the spot as far as I was concerned for an overnight stop. I was mainly surrounded by Dutch caravanners whom I am convinced are the most ambitious of us all when it comes to touring and seem to know the best spots to stay!
Mind you, I am no slouch myself. My journey was Bologna, Modena, Verona, Brenner, Innsbruck, Kufstein, Munich, Nurenburg, Wurzberg, Frankfurt, Cologne, Venlo, Eindhoven, Antwerp and so to Calais.

This is an exceptional site. Camping Spiaggia Lago di Molveno is located right up against the lake with mountains to one side and directly behind and it will come as no surprise that it is the location that is the winner. It also sports a bar and restaurant and Molveno itself is a smashing spot – too busy for some in season but deserted last week when I was there – and you just need to take care with your map as best not to select the mountain route!!
I was on my way north out of Italy heading for Austria having passed Verona and Trento.
Next stop: The Brenner Pass.
All is revealed in Caravan Europe 2 (2011) from The Caravan Club on page 461.

inOld habits die hard!
Invariably on my last evening before crossing back from France into the UK I stay at the Calais Camping Car Park (€7) right along side the ferries. Adjacent to the car park is the excellent Cote D’Argent restaurant which rounds off any holiday in some style.
In the morning we all bolt round to the ferries via Sangatte; it’s a tradition!!
