The Caravan Club has announced that it will be releasing its 2013 pitch prices on November 5 this year – a full month ahead of booking ‘go-live’ on December 5.

Releasing the prices earlier means members will have more time to plan and research their holidays in advance. Last year over thirty thousand bookings were made in the first hour of go-live on Wednesday 7 December. A total of 70,000 bookings had been made for the 2012 season by midnight.

Peter Martin, Head of Membership Services for The Caravan Club says: “We hope that by releasing the prices early, members will have time to really think about where they want to visit and have more chance to research the area and work out their budget. This in turn gives them the opportunity to try new places and plan new adventures. Many of our members have their old favourites‚ but we have many new sites on the network and this system will hopefully allow them to discover some new favourite sites.”

The Caravan Club has purchased the Mark Hammerton Group; under Club ownership it will be known as The Alan Rogers Travel Group.

The Club is delighted to be able to add the extensive range of travel products, expertise and service to its already renowned Travel Service. This acquisition is a strategic move for The Club to enable it to grow its Overseas Travel Service offering for members and to further strengthen its position as market-leader. The acquisition of The Alan Rogers Travel Group will ensure Club members have a greater choice of travel products and services.

Nick Lomas, Director General of The Caravan Club, and now Managing Director of The Alan Rogers Travel Group, says, “The Caravan Club’s acquisition of The Alan Rogers Travel Group has combined two market-leading brands which will further enhance The Club’s Travel Service offering for its members. Together the two organisations can build an array of unbeatable travel products and services.”

The Caravan Club is Europe’s premier touring organisation representing the interests of over one million caravanners, motorhomers and trailer tenters.

The Alan Rogers Travel Group is a UK market leader: it is the publisher of the Alan Rogers Guides; provides extensive campsite information; sells sites and ferry crossings and is the exclusive UK agent for Camping Cheque. It also owns Belle France, a specialist French tour operator, a digital media company and has a Dutch office that sells media opportunities to individual campsites.

As Europe’s premier touring organisation, The Caravan Club represents the interests of over one million caravanners, motorhomers and trailer tent owners.

Nearly half a billion fewer litres of petrol and diesel were sold between April and June than during the same period last year, says the Department of Energy and Climate Change. The reduction came despite a fall in fuel prices during the period.

It came after sales rose at the start of the year when the threat of a tanker drivers’ strike saw panic buying. Motoring organisation The AA said price rises since 2008 have contributed to a “steady decline” in the overall market.

The government figures show that more than 2 billion fewer litres of petrol and diesel were sold compared with the same period in 2008, before the recession. In the first half of this year, a total of 16.7 billion litres of fuel was sold on forecourts in the UK. This compares with total sales of nearly 19 billion litres between January and June 2008.
