Monsal Head is between The Caravan Club’s Castleton and Chatsworth sites. It is one of the Peak District’s main beauty spots.
It used to be the route of the former Midland Railway built in the 1870s and campaigned against by John Ruskin who objected to the environmental damage it would do just “so any fool from Bakewell can be in Buxton by lunchtime.”
Sounds to me a bit like HS2.

our favourite bike ride in the Peaks, one of the most beautiful areas in the country
There is a great little campsite right by Monsal Head. It’s very basic – a walled field (with a slight slope) and clean shower/toilet. Two pubs and a hotel in easy walking distance. Fanny the Tranny has been twice this year.
