The views from almost every pitch at CAMC Trewethett Farm are stunning.

And a couple of miles down the road is Boscastle.

Boscastle Harbour.

Sometimes motorhomers find Cornwall a long way away but in an era of staycations it is back to being hugely popular.

Clearly my loyalties lie with the CAMC but even in these early summer days the sheer number of motorhomes is very apparent and and I can foresee “invasion” headlines appearing in local papers. Congratulations to the Tintagel beauty hot spot for accommodating day time and night time motorhome stays.

For my part I will stay on regulated sites and try to be a responsible tourist. Simply because that is easily the nicest way to have a cracking good holiday – which we certainly had this week at the drop dead gorgeous Trewethett Farm.

I guess like many motorhomers and caravaners I have been booking sites ahead in the hope that one day, one of them will become a real booking and off I go! No harm in dreaming.

Anyway, things are getting close and at the end of April we have a pitch booked at the exquisite CAMC Trewethett Farm site near Tintagel. The May Bank Holiday will be a few days later on May 3rd and might I get lucky and be able to get to Trewethett at the end of April?

Fingers crossed.

Enjoying a few days here in Cornwall.

It is a bit of a trip down memory lane for me in that light years ago when I was with the truck division of British Leyland I was here a lot as English China Clays (ECC Group) was one of our biggest customers and I was forever here demonstrating off-highway trucks for use in the china clay mines.

The Carlyon Bay Hotel always seemed to feature in our discussions and I popped in for a meal last night to remind me of those days. It has of course extensively modernised over time but some traditions live on – a pianist still performs in the main dining room.

When I was here in the early seventies ECC was a huge employer and the county was littered with spoil heaps. Employment was vital but the side effects of the mining was not pretty. The world moved on and finally by 1999 the company had stopped trading – in its heyday it was a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. We tend to think that disruption is a new phenonomen because we see new players moving in and doing things differently but sadly too many industries have failed to reinvent themselves. And now there is a China Clay Museum charting the rise and fall of the industry.

To a visitor like myself Cornwall clearly has a range of industries at work but I get the impression that now tourism is top dog. Indeed the County Council recently decided to keep its Brussels office in an attempt to continue to encourage inward investment despite the Brexit vote.

It’s been a lovely break.

Cornwall and the West Country now boasts yet another Caravan Club affiliated park.

Wooda Farm Holiday Park, near Bude, has become the latest addition to the Club and can be enjoyed by members looking to enjoy the picturesque scenery in the south-west of England.

The park is an absolute must for caravanners visiting the area as it is situated overlooking the magnificent Bude Bay and just a short drive to the village of Poughill. Visitors will be able to enjoy a host of amenities on-site as Wooda Farm is equipped with a coarse fishing lake, tennis and badminton courts and an adventure playground, great for people travelling with children.

There is much to do around the area as well as people can visit popular attractions such as Poundstock Gildhouse and Hartland Abbey. Cornwall is also home to a host of impressive beaches with Bude itself being a great seaside town to visit.

Merrose Farm Caravan Club site in Cornwall celebrated its fortieth anniversary this weekend and the wardens, who keep the site in immaculate condition, took the farming theme to new heights with a display in front of the reception building which impressed us all!!
